Theme Parks and Entertainment: The Military Discount Stacking Guide

A Walt Disney World ticket costs $109–189 at the gate. Through the 2026 Disney Military Salute program, you pay $409 for a 4-day Park Hopper — roughly $102 per day, versus $150–189 per day at the gate. For a family of four, that gap runs $400–700 before you’ve bought a single churro.

Most service members never claim these discounts. They book through Expedia like civilians and leave hundreds of dollars on the table. Here’s how to stop doing that.

Disney Military Salute: The Big One

Disney runs an annual Armed Forces Salute program offering deeply discounted theme park tickets to active duty, Guard, Reserve, retired military, and their dependents.

Walt Disney World 2026 pricing (Park Hopper, plus tax):

Add Park Hopper Plus (water parks, mini golf, ESPN Wide World) for $30 more.

Disneyland Resort 2026 pricing (Park Hopper, no blackout dates):

The rules:

• Each service member can purchase up to 6 tickets — covering family and friends
• WDW tickets valid January 1 through December 18, 2026
• WDW blackout dates: March 29–April 11, 2026 and November 22–28, 2026
• Disneyland multi-day tickets have no blackout dates
• Tickets sell out — don’t wait until summer to buy

Where to buy: Your installation’s ITT/MWR ticket office, Shades of Green resort, or Disney’s official military portal. Do not buy from third-party resellers — military tickets require verification and must come from authorized sources.

Universal Orlando: The Military Freedom Pass

Universal Orlando replaced its old per-day discount with a Military Freedom Pass — an annual pass exclusive to military families. For 2026:

• 2-Park Freedom Pass (Universal Studios Florida + Islands of Adventure): $220
• 3-Park Freedom Pass (adds Volcano Bay): $255
• Epic Universe add-on available at a discounted rate (Epic Universe opened in 2025)

Valid most days from November 13, 2025 through December 18, 2026. Blackout dates: Dec 25, 2025–Jan 4, 2026 and March 30–April 6, 2026.

Critical: These passes are only available at authorized military ticket offices — not at the Universal gate and not online. If your installation’s ITT office doesn’t have them in stock, ask them to order. At $220 for an annual pass, this is one of the best deals in the military entertainment space.

SeaWorld and Busch Gardens: Waves of Honor

SeaWorld’s Waves of Honor program gives active duty military one free single-day ticket per year, plus three free tickets for direct dependents — four admissions total, free. This covers SeaWorld parks, Busch Gardens, and Sesame Place Philadelphia.

Additional tickets are available at 50% off (up to 6 more).

Eligibility: Active duty, activated Reservists, and National Guard. Retirees and DOD civilians are not eligible for the free admission tier.

How to claim: Register through ID.me online. Print tickets before your visit. The program runs through December 31, 2026.

If your family goes more than once a year, a Military Silver Annual Pass ($161) includes unlimited admission, free general parking, and three guest tickets — worth considering if you’re within driving distance.

Six Flags (Now Includes Knott’s Berry Farm and Carowinds)

Cedar Fair and Six Flags completed a merger in July 2024. The combined company is now Six Flags Entertainment Corporation and operates 42 parks — including former Cedar Fair parks like Knott’s Berry Farm and Carowinds. Park names are unchanged.

Military discounts vary by location. Some parks offer specific military appreciation events with free single-day admission, most notably around Memorial Day weekend. Standard military discount tickets are available for online purchase — discounts must be redeemed through ID.me before you arrive; the deal is not available at the gate.

Check the specific park’s military discount page. Six parks had distinct pricing structures before the merger; under unified ownership the programs are being consolidated but are not yet identical.

Dollywood

Dollywood (Pigeon Forge, Tennessee) offers military discounts on single-day tickets, Season Passes, and lodging. Eligible: active and retired military, veterans, Reservists, spouses, and dependents with valid military ID.

Benefits include two discounted bring-a-friend tickets and 5% off cabin or resort stays. Verify and purchase through ID.me online.

If you’re routing through the Smokies — or already live in the Southeast — Dollywood is a legitimate full-day trip for families. It’s not Disney, and that’s partly the point.

The ITT Office Advantage

This is the most important line in this post: call your ITT office before buying any theme park tickets.

ITT offices buy in bulk. Their prices are often $10–20 lower per ticket than the advertised military rate. The Universal Freedom Pass ($220 annual) is only available through ITT. Disney Salute tickets are available at ITT in most cases at the same official price, but ITT staff know which ticket types are still in stock for the current year.

Before you buy anything:

1. Call your installation ITT/MWR office
2. Ask what they have in stock and what they can order
3. Compare to the park’s listed military rate
4. Buy from whichever is cheaper

If you’re retired without a nearby installation, contact Shades of Green (Disney) or any active duty installation’s ITT office — they can assist retirees in most cases.

Free Museums: Blue Star Museums

The Blue Star Museums program is a partnership between the National Endowment for the Arts and Blue Star Families. It provides free admission to over 2,000 museums — including zoos, nature centers, and children’s museums — during the summer.

2026 dates: Armed Forces Day (May 16) through Labor Day (September 7, 2026)

Who qualifies: The military ID holder plus up to five family members. Covers active duty, National Guard, and Reserve with a valid CAC, DD Form 1173, or DD Form 1173-1 ID card.

Find participating locations at arts.gov/bluestarmuseums. This is an easy add-on to any summer trip — check before paying admission anywhere.

Military Appreciation Days

Some parks designate specific dates as Military Appreciation Days with free or deeply discounted admission for the service member:

• Veterans Day (November 11) — the most common, across park types
• Memorial Day weekend — Six Flags properties commonly run free single-day admissions
• Park-specific seasonal events — announced 2–6 weeks in advance

These often aren’t widely advertised. Follow your installation’s MWR social pages, and check the entertainment section of Military OneSource before any major park visit.

Movie Theaters

AMC, Regal, and Cinemark all offer military discounts at participating locations — typically 10–20% off tickets. Show your military ID at the box office.

The catch: discount availability and amount varies by specific theater. Regal and Cinemark tend to be more consistent; AMC is location-dependent. Check before you commit to a theater if the discount is the deciding factor.

Stacking the Savings

The discount isn’t the ceiling — it’s the floor.

1. Buy through ITT first. Bulk rates often beat portal rates.

2. Check your credit card. The Chase Sapphire Reserve, Amex Platinum (with SCRA/MLA fee waiver), and similar premium cards offer travel and entertainment credits that can offset park spending. Military members often hold these cards at no annual fee.

3. Target Military Appreciation Days. If your schedule is flexible, a free admission day for the service member shifts the math significantly — you’re paying dependent tickets only.

4. Book Disney early. Military Salute tickets have a finite annual supply. They’re gone before fall most years.

What to Bring

Every park requires verification. Come prepared:

• Military ID (CAC or dependent DD Form 1173)
• ID.me verification — SeaWorld, Six Flags, Dollywood, and others require pre-registration online
• Purchase confirmation if you bought through ITT or a military portal in advance

Call the park ahead of time if the ID requirement isn’t clear. Driving four hours and getting turned away at the gate for a documentation issue is a fixable problem — if you make one phone call first.

One Action That Saves You the Most Money

Call your ITT office before booking any theme park tickets.

Not the park website. Not Expedia. ITT first. They have current prices, bulk rates, and firsthand knowledge of what’s actually available this season. Five minutes on the phone typically saves $20–50 per ticket — and that’s before stacking.

Key 2026 note: Disney blackout dates at Walt Disney World include spring break (March 29–April 11) and Thanksgiving week (November 22–28). Universal Freedom Pass must be purchased through ITT offices — not available at the gate. SeaWorld Waves of Honor free admission requires advance ID.me registration.
