Military Theme Park Programs: The Real Guide to Every Discount and Free Ticket in 2026

Every April the old blog posts start circulating again. Free LEGOLAND. $130 Universal passes. Buy your Disney Armed Forces Salute tickets online. Most of it is wrong. This is the list of what actually exists in 2026, what each program costs, and where to buy it — sourced from the parks themselves.

How to actually claim a military theme park discount

Every park runs its program differently, but almost all of them fall into one of four buckets. Knowing which bucket a park uses saves you the time of clicking around their website looking for a button that does not exist.

Disney — Armed Forces Salute

Disney has run the Armed Forces Salute every year since 2009 and 2026 is no different. There are two separate deals, one for Walt Disney World and one for Disneyland, and both are only sold through military channels.

Walt Disney World (Florida)

• 4-Day Military Promotional Ticket with Park Hopper option, plus an upgrade path to 5 days
• Sold at Shades of Green and through base MWR / ITT offices
• Valid through Dec 18, 2026 (last check-in before the window closes)
• 2026 blockouts: March 29 through April 11 and November 22 through November 28

Disneyland (California)

• 3-Day Military Promotional Ticket with Park Hopper option, plus an upgrade path to 4 days
• Sold through MWR / ITT
• Valid through Dec 18, 2026
• Blockouts vary — confirm at the ticket office before you buy

The eligibility rule people miss: the sponsoring service member or their spouse has to be present at the park on the first day the ticket is used. Disney will admit dependents on subsequent days once the ticket is activated, but day one they need to see you. One qualifying ID holder can buy up to six Salute tickets per promotional window.

Universal — Military Freedom Pass and Hollywood

Universal Orlando Military Freedom Pass

This is the best multi-day Orlando deal for a military family in 2026. The Freedom Pass is a 2-park ticket for Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure, good for unlimited visits through December 18, 2026. Price is $220 plus tax. Epic Universe is sold as a separate add-on.

If you have heard the price was $130, that was an older version of the pass. The current 2026 Freedom Pass is $220 for two parks. Still cheap compared to the $200-plus single-day gate price.

Universal Studios Hollywood

Universal Studios Hollywood offers military-discounted tickets through two paths. The first is ID.me verification on the park’s main ticket page. The second is base MWR / ITT, which sometimes carries a deeper discount depending on the promotion. Compare both before you buy. Savings typically run 15 to 25 percent off the gate price.

SeaWorld, Busch Gardens, Sesame Place, Water Country USA — Waves of Honor

United Parks & Resorts (the parent of SeaWorld) runs one of the few truly free programs still standing. The rule is simple but the distinction between active duty and veteran matters.

Active duty, Guard, Reserve

• One free single-day admission per calendar year for the service member and up to three dependents
• Good at SeaWorld Orlando, San Antonio, and San Diego; Busch Gardens Tampa and Williamsburg; Sesame Place Philadelphia and San Diego; Water Country USA; and Adventure Island
• Register at wavesofhonor.com and print or save the e-ticket before you arrive

Veterans

• Discount on single-day and annual passes — not free
• Same registration at wavesofhonor.com; the site shows your veteran-specific price after verification

If you see a blog post claiming veterans get free SeaWorld tickets, the author mixed up the active duty and veteran tiers. Veterans get a real discount, but the free ticket is active-component only.

Six Flags and the former Cedar Fair parks

Six Flags merged with Cedar Fair in 2024, so the military program now covers one combined roster. All verification runs through ID.me on sixflags.com, which drops the military price into your cart at checkout. Active duty, veterans, Guard, Reserve, and a listed number of dependents all qualify depending on the park.

Dollywood

Military Appreciation Days

April 14 through May 17, 2026. Single-day ticket for $59 for active duty, veterans, and retirees with valid ID. One of the cheaper tickets you will find for a park in Dollywood’s size class.

Year-round discount

Outside of Military Appreciation, ID.me verification on dollywood.com gets you a smaller discount on single-day tickets and season passes. Not as deep as the April to May window, but available any time.

Silver Dollar City — the one most people miss

Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri, runs the most generous military program in the country in 2026 and nobody’s advertising it. Active-duty service members across all branches can claim a free 2026 Season Passport — full season, unlimited visits, zero dollars.

• Eligibility: active duty military (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Space Force, Coast Guard), plus qualifying active Guard and Reserve
• Registration deadline: May 25, 2026
• Activation: pick up the physical passport in person at the park by July 31, 2026, with your CAC
• Cost: $0

Register at silverdollarcity.com under the Military Salute page, then show up with your CAC before the July 31 deadline to activate. Miss the pickup window and the pass is forfeited.

LEGOLAND — read this before booking

What exists in 2026 is a 2-Day Hopper ticket sold at the price of a 1-Day ticket for military members. That saves about 35 to 40 percent off a standard 2-day admission, but nothing is free. Buy it through ID.me on legoland.com (for the US parks) or through base MWR / ITT, which occasionally has a bundled Hopper deal.

Hersheypark

Hersheypark runs a straightforward in-person discount. $20 off single-day admission for active duty, veterans, Guard, and Reserve with valid military ID, available at the park ticket window. Seasonal promotions — Memorial Day weekend, Veterans Day weekend — push that deeper, sometimes close to half off.

Hersheypark also carries discounted tickets through GovX and WeSalute (formerly Veterans Advantage) memberships, so if you already have one, check there before you drive. The in-window price tends to match those, but the GovX path is faster if you live far from Hershey.

The myths that keep circulating

Every one of these shows up on Google’s top results for “military theme park discounts.” None of them is currently true.

1. “LEGOLAND is free for active duty.” Ended August 2022. The current offer is 2-Day Hopper for the price of a 1-Day.
2. “You can buy Disney Armed Forces Salute tickets on the Disney website.” You cannot. Sold only through MWR / ITT and Shades of Green.
3. “Veterans get free SeaWorld tickets.” Only active duty get free. Veterans get a discount through Waves of Honor.
4. “Universal Military Freedom Pass is $130.” Old price. Current 2026 pass is $220 for two parks through December 18, 2026.
5. “The Disney Salute works for any military ID holder who shows up.” The sponsoring service member or their spouse must be present on first use of the ticket.

Common questions

Can I use more than one discount at a time?

Not usually. Parks treat a military ticket as its own promotional price, so it does not stack with season-pass holder discounts, AAA, or Groupon. The one exception is concession spending once you are inside — military members still get standard Disney Dining discounts or Universal dining promotions layered on top of a Salute or Freedom Pass ticket.

Do dependents need their own military ID?

Depends on the program. Waves of Honor and Silver Dollar City want the service member’s ID and the dependent count at registration. Universal Military Freedom Pass requires the pass holder’s ID at every entry. Disney only needs the sponsor or spouse on day one. ID.me links to the service member’s account, so for Six Flags and Dollywood, the logged-in verified member can buy multiple tickets at the military price without showing dependent ID separately.

What if I’m retired or medically separated?

Retirees and medically separated veterans qualify the same as active duty for most programs — Disney Salute, Waves of Honor (veteran tier), Six Flags, Dollywood, Hersheypark. Universal Military Freedom Pass limits its veteran tier to 100 percent disabled veterans. Silver Dollar City’s free season pass is active duty only.

Does the ticket work for Guard or Reserve not on active orders?

For Disney Salute and Universal Freedom Pass, yes, Guard and Reserve qualify regardless of active-orders status. For the SeaWorld free active-duty tier, Guard and Reserve must be on current orders or serving in a drilling status. When in doubt, call the park’s military ticket line before driving.

What about Knott’s Berry Farm, Cedar Point, or Kings Dominion specifically?

All three are now part of the combined Six Flags / Cedar Fair program. Use ID.me on sixflags.com or the park’s direct site. Discount levels and eligible ID types are identical across parks in the combined system.

Do this this weekend

If you are planning an Orlando trip, stop at your base MWR before you buy anything online. A Disney Salute ticket plus a Universal Military Freedom Pass typically runs under $550 per person for a multi-day visit to three parks — Disney, Universal Studios, and Islands of Adventure. Book the same trip without the military programs and you will clear $1,200 per person for similar coverage.
