Two main paths exist for veterans seeking event access: donation-based platforms like VetTix that give away tickets for free, and verified-military marketplaces like GovX that offer discounted (not free) pricing. Your base ITR/ticket office is often overlooked and frequently the cheapest option for theme parks and local attractions. Each serves a different situation — understanding all three means you rarely pay full price.

VetTix.org
Verified military nonprofit — 100% free tickets donated by venues and teams
Free Tickets501(c)(3) NonprofitMilitary ID Verified
VetTix is the largest nonprofit platform providing free tickets to sporting events, concerts, performing arts, and family shows for the military community. Venues and sports franchises donate unsold seats; VetTix distributes them at no cost. Since 2009 they've given away over 3 million tickets. This isn't a discount program — tickets are free, including to NFL, MLB, NBA, and NHL games.

How it works
1Create a free account at VetTix.org and verify your military status (DD-214, ID.me, or similar).
2Browse available events in your area — inventory rotates as venues donate new tickets.
3Request tickets for events you want. High-demand events (NFL playoffs, major concerts) use a lottery system.
4Receive digital tickets or a confirmation email. You cover parking and any extras — the seats are free.
Pro tip: Inventory moves fast, especially for professional sports. Check the site regularly and turn on email notifications for your local market. The "Family Fun" category often has consistent availability when major sports events are sold out.
Verified-military marketplace — discounted tickets across sports, concerts, and events
Discounted TicketsMilitary Verified
GovX is a commercial marketplace that offers military-exclusive pricing on events alongside gear, travel, and theme parks. Their events and tickets section covers live sports, concerts, theater, and family attractions — prices are typically 10–40% below retail, though availability and discount depth vary by event and venue. Unlike VetTix, you pay for tickets; GovX is purely a discount channel.
GovX verifies your status once (via ID upload or SheerID), then you have access across all their categories. Their ticket inventory is strongest for regional events and theme parks — the major leagues are hit or miss compared to VetTix. Where GovX excels: last-minute concert seats, minor league sports, and family shows where inventory is wide open.
Pro tip: Use VetTix first for anything major. GovX fills the gap for events VetTix doesn't carry, or when you need guaranteed access rather than a lottery.
Your installation's Information, Tickets & Registration office buys bulk tickets at steep discounts — theme parks, sports, concerts. Often the lowest price available, and no online checkout needed. Check your base's MWR website or visit in person.

Armed Forces Entertainment
DoD-funded program that brings live performances directly to deployed troops and remote installations. Free shows — musicians, comedians, and performing artists on USO-style tours. Available only while deployed or stationed overseas.
The USO runs free live entertainment events at military installations and airports worldwide. Most events are open to active duty, veterans, and family members. Check the USO event finder for what's scheduled near your installation.
Both platforms offer military discount programs — not always prominently advertised. Ticketmaster uses ID.me verification; Live Nation has a dedicated military page. Discounts are event-specific, typically 15–25% off face value.
Search: "Ticketmaster military discount" or "Live Nation military"
SeatGeek Military Discount
SeatGeek offers military pricing on select events through verified military accounts. Coverage is smaller than GovX but SeatGeek's buyer protection and price-grade system make it useful for secondary market tickets.
Many pro sports teams run their own military appreciation programs outside VetTix — group ticket blocks at a discount, military appreciation nights with special pricing, and free hat/jersey promotions. Check the "Tickets" section of your local team's website.
Search: "[team name] military discount tickets"
How to stack these: Check VetTix first for free options → check GovX if VetTix has nothing → check your base ITR office for theme parks and recurring attractions → fall back to Ticketmaster/Live Nation for any remainder. Using all four channels means you'll almost never pay full retail for a live event.
